Client Requirements
- A robust pedestal emergency phone that is solar powered with a back up battery that will work with the current VHF system used by Auckland’s motorways. When a call is initiated this unit provides call conditions similar to a normal cell phone – a simultaneous two-way conversation.
- Highly visible and safe.
- A modernised solution that will blend in with the phones that currently operate on a private VHF and cellular network depending on location.

- Steelcom designed a radio-based emergency phone that could be RF 2 way radio, cellular or fixed line.
- The phones currently operate on private VHF network.
- Frangible base so when hit with direct impact of a motor vehicle it moves minimising driver impact
